September 21, 2010 - Railwayana Sale: Bonhams are pleased to announce their forthcoming Railwayana sale which is to be held at Knowle, England at 11am 21 September 2010 will include a collection of over 1100 US railroad tickets (including headed notepaper, maps, timetables, brochures and passes) from around 70 different companies most dating from the period 1933 -1936. The items were collected by a member of the Atagosan Railway Co of Japan. The member of staff wrote to over eighty US Railway Companies and the collection includes correspondence from a significant number of US Companies. The collection has been carefully looked after and is in excellent condition. The majority of the tickets are in unused condition, many have been stamped either 'Sample' or perforated 'VOID'. A number also include tickets numbered 0000 (proof tickets). The collection also includes headed notepaper from around forty US Railway Companies. In addition the sale includes a collection of US steam locomotive photographs from the late John J Bowman Jr. Collection. All photographs have been annoted verso and date from the 1930's/1940's (a few later), over 50 US railroad companies represented also includes US street car, rapid transit and trams. The items were collected by a member of the Atagosan Railway Co of Japan. The member of staff wrote to over eighty US Railway Companies and the collection includes correspondence from a significant number of US Companies. The collection has been carefully looked after and is in excellent condition. "Railroadiana" means artifacts -- lanterns, timetables, china, paper, etc. -- that are of railroad origin, rather than models or toys trains. As a rule fo thumb, when shows, events auctions, etc. also focus on model railroading items, at least 50% should be railroadiana to be included in this calendar.
